Shadowbanned into Submission!

amp334b

Twitter has shadowbanned my account, @A_M_Perez.

What does this mean?  I have been completely censored.  People at Twitter apparently don’t like what I have to say.  I primarily tweet and debate only two major topics.  The U.S. Constitution, which I swore an oath to protect and defend, and atheism, because I don’t like being forced to pay for children to learn atheist religious beliefs in public schools against the wills of parents.

The shadowban placed on my account disables all of my tweets from being seen by anyone who does not go directly to my Timeline.  If you go to my Timeline, you will see my tweets, but if you open them you will be unable to see any threads or other tweets mine were replying to.  If you reply to my tweets, you will not see my response.  All you can see is what is right on my Timeline.  If I tweet you directly, you will never see it.

I am fairly certain there are different levels of shadowbanning.  Prior to this complete shut down of my speech, my tweet outreach seemed throttled back more and more.  As the number of my followers grew, my tweet activity should have shown increased impressions.  Basically, this how many times tweets are put out there on other people’s timelines.  This was not the case.  I was getting 5 million impressions a month when I had 30,000 followers.  I was reaching far fewer than that in the past several months.  Now I have practically zero impressions.

Here is what it looks like when your tweets get throttled back, but you aren’t completely banned yet.  Notice the last two days.

shadowban-throttled

There were several other indicators, such as the number of retweets I would get.  When I had only 10,000 followers it wasn’t uncommon for me to get several hundred or 1000 retweets.  Before this full scale shadowban I was barely getting more than 50 retweets on similar tweets.

Even if you go to my timeline and retweet me, no one sees your retweet, because it is my tweet.  If you “quote tweet,” your followers may see it.

Here is 100%, ironclad proof that I am shadowbanned. Click this link:

https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=from%3AA_M_Perez&src=typd

This link does a search for tweets by the account in the link.  I have highlighted my name in the link red.  Try the link with any Twitter usernames you like.  My tweets are censored. Note: to try this on yourself, you can’t be logged in to Twitter. Either log out of Twitter or do it from another browser or device you aren’t logged in to Twitter on.  This only shows if you are completely shadowbanned, not if your impressions have only been partially throttled back.

I have not broken a single Twitter rule that I know of.  It’s impossible to know for sure, because Twitter Support will not acknowledge my requests for help or my questions about what I may have done wrong.  Rather than let me know how I may have broken a rule, so I can correct my behavior and avoid future infractions, they simply shut me up.  They gave me absolutely zero recourse to appeal or even learn why this has happened.

I have tried to send a tweet to Jack Dorsey (@jack), the CEO of Twitter to request his help.  Since I am shadowbanned, I doubt he can even see my tweet.  I don’t think Jack should have to waste his time on things like this anyway.  Twitter support should have people who can objectively judge a situation without bias and hold a dialogue with you to work things out.  If I have broken any Twitter rules, I would like to know about it, so I can learn what to avoid and not make the same mistakes.  The rules are arbitrary and extremely hard to understand.  Twitter can say you’ve broken the TOS without giving you any example of which rule you broke or how. They have the god-like power and you have to do what they say.  The worst part of it is, they say nothing.  They leave you in the dark.  They simply ban you and you can’t do a thing about it.  I’m sure it’s something to laugh about around the Twitter water cooler.  Someone like me who generates millions of impressions on Twitter, gets no voice.  Literally no voice.

If the real reason behind shadowbanning were about rules infractions, Jack Dorsey and the rest of Twitter would want to provide a way for people to recognize their own misbehavior and correct it, so Twitter can grow and keep a reputation of open and uncensored discourse.  But that is not how they operate.  You are shut up and shut up hard, if they don’t agree with you and your voice is too loud.  It doesn’t matter how many countless hours you have put into Twitter.  Even with 111,000 followers, I am but mere scum, deserving no degree of fairness.

I am a conservative.  I was just recognized by Brandwatch as being one of the top 20 conservative influencers on Twitter, even while my tweet influence was throttled back.  Here is the link: @A_M_Perez is the number 12 Conservative Influencer on TwitterRoughly 24 hours after this recognition, which I was stupid enough to mention on Twitter, I was completely shut up.

I would like to hear from Twitter.  They are free to DM me.  I’d gladly apologize for anything I did wrong and to whomever I did it to.  Perhaps I did break a Twitter rule.  If so, I am a human being and can make mistakes.  I can learn from them too.  I need to know what they are, though.  I just want a little compassion from Twitter to hear me out and even more I want to hear them out.  I would love to be able to report that everything turned out great and amicably.  I am actually quite scared that bringing this up will only bring down more wrath on me.  It’s such a shame.  There is no social media platform I like better than Twitter.

Update 25 Sep. 2016 : Here is the list of top 20 Republican/Conservative Influencers on Twitter from Brandwatch listed by who has been shadowbanned so far.

  1. This is undeniable truth that Twitter has been abusing their authority. I used that link you posted and used my name instead and it clearly listed out my tweets, which I was happy to see. Thanks for writing this article, it has been very enlightening. I hope Twitter is eventually overtaken and beaten by a mass communication site that is fair and just. One possible solution would be for conservatives to collectively ban together and start sending massive communications to Twitter that this is unacceptable and to fix it. I would join that. We could each send one message per day.

  2. This really pisses me off. Whose legs do I have to break? Seriously, though, Anna, you don’t deserve to be treated this way by these buffoons. We both know what this is (censorship) and that coward Jack Dorsey doesn’t have the stones to face you. I truly hope this gets resolved and that you get back on track. I miss you on Twitter, my friend. I wouldn’t be on it without you. God bless and take care of yourself.

    • Thank you very much! Well, it’s been over 5 weeks so far that I have been silenced and I have heard almost nothing from Twitter. What I have heard was nothing but their Support Babies blowing smoke. Thank God 300 of them are being laid off this week, due to Twitter constantly losing money. Well, I wonder why they lose money? Censoring half of their users may have a little to do with it. Well, I took the opportunity to let Twitter Support know that cutting me off Twitter is nothing compared with them losing their jobs. I get the last laugh. And rumor has it that Twitter may end up having to lay off another 2000 of their 3500 employees. I am just rolling on the floor laughing!

  3. Brandwatch is a social media monitoring company based in the UK. They sell their services for anyone willing to pay their fees. Brandwatch’s “endorsement” that someone is in the “top 20 Republican/Conservative Influencers on Twitter” amounts to exactly what? That “title” will not even get you a cup of coffee at Starbucks. Twitter itself does not endorse any of their findings. Is the presumption that somehow your “influence” on Twitter can effect the course of an election? Or that somehow your influence is so strong and far-reaching that the political powers that be seek to stifle your growing behemoth? Nothing but misplaced hubris.

    • I never said anything about the election. I have endorsed no one who is running in the election. I also have not paied Brandwatch any fees and neither have anyone else on the list they made from statistical analyses. Who cares what Twitter endorses? They are a bunch of children running a company they don’t even know how to make a profit with.

  4. They are going too far with this. I’m also surprised anonymous wouldn’t get behind you on this. This is exactly the type of problem they’re usually eager to fix.

I have a domain that I’m not doing anything with and hosting that I’m willing to use I’m any way to help your cause.

I’m a geek that got sick of IT because of many C*O related incompetent issues that have lead me to take a shot at comedy.

I say some really dark things sometimes and many of them can only be protected by free speech and for that I admire you. I should also have been banned as I’m not in the least bit nice to people looking to debate since it’s not what I’m there.

So after reading this my conclusion is to fight technology with technology. Not in an illegal way but by setting up an environment that can’t be persuaded and unlike Hillary I can set up a server in my house that they’d be on the news if they tried to stifle it.

The Darknet may be another avenue to take as well. There’s also plenty of people that may set something up just by hearing about this and not be as nice as me when it comes to a solution.

I’m sure many IT People wouldn’t even entertain certain decisions if they weren’t hidden.

There’s a reason why Newt Gingrich ended up on the White House lawn at dawn saying he wants to sleep with an ex-wife and stay with his current one. I’m a little afraid of what he didn’t get outed for in exchange for saying that but as I listened to the calls from the Whitehouse To Scotland yards on YouTube I realized there’s always going to be people that refuse to be bullied by the govt.

I can’t condone or promote some of these acts but I can tell you there’s a lot of people who’s lack of concern for security end up becoming Zombies in Botnets that I’ve read were sometimes in control of 250,000 computers and nobody admits to everything they have. Especially to the people they associate with because they never know when they may need them for other causes they don’t include some being on their side.

Having said that, there’s a chance that if the right people are looking to help you a bunch of liberals too ignorant to know the importance of security will end up doing the last thing they want to do and that’s help your cause with their computers.

I was an IT guy taking classes to learn how to secure networks, the buildings they’re in as well as social engineering techniques used and there’s things I’ve learned that scared the Hell out of me.

The D.O.J. was told to leave some people alone and it wasn’t a request so when those people were arrested the guess who’s network got shut down.

@Trutherbot got killed and even though anonymous helped kill thousands and thousands of terrorist accounts Twitter was not grateful and now There’s a lot of Trutherbots to ensure that on top of the Hell that went on when the original one was killed they’ll still be heard and you should be too.

You both provide good information and the days of marching with bullhorns and chanting are just silly and over. They still do it but nobody cares. Especially when black people do it because they just don’t know how to act in large #s without burning things and for some reason robbing sneaker stores and pharmacies because a cop shot one of them and this time he was armed

So I’m going to pass this around and hope.the right people see it. From what my teacher told us, if you make a permanent enemy out of one of these people they never stop until you’re gone

I’m not looking to break any laws but it would be funny if Twitter was shut down whenever you were banned until they realized they are fighting a losing battle and they’d rather leave you be than have to relocate.

    • I really appreciate the support! As for your suggesting of fighting technology with technology, I have just been informed of a new Twitter like social media platform at Gab.ai. It is supposed to be censorship free. I signed up, but it is in beta and has about a 2 week waiting list to have your account activated. It said I had 65,000 people ahead of me. Since being told about it, of course I Googled it. It looks as if it may be very big. I am trying to figure out if I can buy stock in it. People are getting sick and tired of being censored and by people I mean the right wing. Twitter is willfully sowing the seeds of its own devolution into a left wing echo chamber that will die on the vine.

    • If you use the link in my post while not being logged into your Twitter account to check your Twitter name, if it shows no results then it is happening to you. If it shows your tweets, then it is not happening, at least not 100%. I really think they use varying degrees of banning.

  7. I’ve been shadow banned on Twitter at least three times. Fortunately for me, these shadow bans are usually removed after 24 hours or so. I can always tell because suddenly I will stop receiving notices, and then if I go to my alternate (test) account, I can determine that none of my tweets are showing up on anyone’s timelines.
The thing is, I am not being obscene, threatening or anything that would deserve this censorship. I am, however, espousing beliefs that are conservative, pro-Trump and anti-Hillary Clinton. I make what I consider to be sarcastic remarks on occasion and also post political cartoons. Why Twitter feels my tweets are so dangerous as to be censored is beyond my comprehension. The only conclusion I can draw is that Twitter is dishonestly and sneakily trying to influence the upcoming Presidential election by silencing conservative voices. If so, this is reprehensible.

  10. I would be interested to know if any of the other people mentioned as Brandwatch’s Top 20 Conservative Influencers have had similar or the same restrictions to their Twitter accounts?
I am unfamiliar with Brandwatch. Did they have a top 20 liberal influencer list and if so have any of those people received similar treatment?
Is it a crime for Twitter to arbitrarily censor or ban individual Twitter users based on their political beliefs or party affiliations? Should it be a crime, if it is not already, given the size and scope of the public’s use of Twitter as a free medium of communication given as there is no viable competitive alternative?

    • I don’t know. But I do know that of that list, I probably engage liberals in debates more and I don’t pull punches and probably hurt feelings. I send many to their safe spaces. What I don’t do is threaten them (as I have been threatened many times) or curse at them. I stick to facts and brow beat them. I don’t harass or continue to tweet people who quit debating. If I am in a debate, there is someone on the other side. I can’t help it if they can’t outwit me and get sad. All I can think of is that I made some libs cry and they reported me. Somehow that probably gets counted as “against the rules.” While threats on me go unpunished. Libs can do or say anything and it’s overlooked.

      • Last year my employer blocked Drudge Report. I called a reporter with one of the well known conservative news papers here in DC. If I would have emailed the screen shot of the block, she would have reported it. But, my employer being very powerful, I didn’t want a digital trail. They unblocked in a couple of weeks. About 2 weeks ago, they blocked Drudge again. This time I and some coworkers raised a ruckus and they unblocked within 24 hours. I’m prepared to get fired. Drudge has posted my news tips before and I’ll call this reporter again. I’m also followed on Twitter by at least one well known news guy, who I just saw on Fox News, and whom I have corresponded with. I’ll see if I can get his attention. There are other avenues I can take. Twitter shadowbanning you is obviously political and censorship and very troubling. This Chinaesque at it’s worst.

        • Wow! Thank you very much! I hope something like that can work out. I don’t know anyone personally who has a large voice in the media and who could get broader attention put on this issue. Most of the people who follow me and vice versa on Twitter are regular Joes. I really appreciate any help, whether it solves the problem or not. At least it is a little more light shining on the issue!

  11. Twitter acting as they are, pretty much blow any pretence they might have had of being a fair and neutral social media platform. This kind of fascism belongs to another time in another place. It just doesn’t belong in America.

  12. So, you were “….recognized by Brandwatch as being one of the top 20 conservative influencers on Twitter.”
BINGO! There’s the reason you were banned – not because you broke any rules, except for THEIR rule to comply with THEIR approved narrative. It’s been happening to conservative posters of the Truth across the board, on social media as well as the Left’s blog sites. Surprised you lasted so long, but thanks for all your hard work!

    • LOL! Yeah, and literally a couple days before I reported someone for sending tweets to hashtags like #hackers and #anonymous asking for someone to shut my account down. Twitter did nothing. I got a message from Twitter Support saying, “We reviewed the account and content reported and are unable to take action given that we could not determine a clear violation of the Twitter Rules.”
